What are fava beans? Fava bean is one the world´s oldest cultivated plants. Also in Finland it has presumably been grown since 13th century Fava bean belongs to vetches (Vicia), which is one of the legume families. Fava beans are used both as human food and animal feed.

Why is Finnish pea protein not used in the product? Finnish pea protein is not available. It is not produced in Finland.
Why does Ground Fava Beans also contain pea protein? Why it is not produced exclusively of fava beans? Ground Fava Beans is a Finnish alternative for foreign soy and in many foods it is used like textured soy protein. Therefore it is important that the protein content is as close as possible to that of textured soy protein. Because fava beans contain less protein compared to soybeans, we decided to include pea protein in Ground Fava Beans. In addition it brings desired structure to the product.
How much fava beans, pea protein and sugar syrup does the product contain? The fava bean content of the product is 55 %, which is also informed on pack in the list of ingredients. A small amount of sugar syrup/molasses is used to obtain appropriate texture. The exact amounts of ingredients are a secret of the recipe.
How is Ground Fava Beans produced? Ground Fava Beans is produced in the same way as pasta and many breakfast cereals or snacks. The first step is to mix together fava bean flour, pea protein and the sugar syrup/molasses. Next the mixture is heated and pressed to a compact paste. Finally the paste is cut into pieces of desired size.
